This is a story about a beautiful baby girl named Sam. She is one of many children whose lives have been saved because her mother was brave enough to walk through our purple doors and ask for help. But Sam is even more special.

You might even say that the fact that she is even here seems somewhat Impossible!

Late last year, Sam’s mom reached out to AWC. It was early in the morning, and she was desperately looking for a pregnancy test and asking questions about the abortion pill. We were able to schedule her for an appointment and confirm her pregnancy. Sadly, when she left our office, her intention was still to obtain an abortion.

As abortion drugs increasingly become available with less medical oversight, what is touted as a “safe and simple” solution, is becoming a more common choice for women. Still, our team followed up with Sam’s mom a few times to offer support, and ensure she was doing ok. However, she never answered or returned our messages.

Finally, over a month later, she reached back out to our follow-up team and shared that she had indeed taken the abortion pills. However, she was concerned because she felt like she was still pregnant. The clinic that provided the pills would not schedule a follow up appointment and recommended that she just take an at home pregnancy test. In contrast, our AWC medical team rallied around this mother as she struggled to know what could possibly be going on with her body.

The clinic that provided the abortion pills would not schedule a follow up appointment.

We brought her back in, retested her, and shared that her pregnancy test was indeed positive. AWC immediately referred her to Dr. Weitzel, a local physician with Abortion Pill Reversal expertise. He confirmed that her sweet baby had survived the abortion, and that she was now in her second trimester. To say this ordeal was overwhelming for this young mother is an understatement! Through it all, she was encouraged and loved deeply by our team members each time she came through AWC’s doors.

Unfortunately, she did not stay connected with us for long. She came to a few parenting classes but then once again stopped responding to our team. In her final communication with AWC, she explained that things were just hard and she wouldn’t be needing our services any longer. We had no idea what happened—did she miscarry or maybe decide to move forward with a surgical abortion? We were left simply to pray for her and her child.

Then one day, out of the blue, a beautiful picture of Sam arrived. She was 12 days old, and her mother was reaching out to share the news of her birth with our team.

Sam survived an abortion. And she is perfect! She is what it looks like to love a mom and share truth and resources and empathy and compassion. No matter what. In addition to practical help and resources, our AWC team gave hope to this woman who initially saw motherhood as an impossible task.

Sam’s story is special; she is a miracle. She is a beautiful reminder that with God, our very difficult, seemingly impossible mission, is indeed POSSIBLE!

Your generosity enables us to continue offering support to Sam’s mother, and many others like her, in the months ahead. It enables us to be present for our clients and meet them in their time of need.

Thank you for being a part of our mission to uphold the value of every human life.
